AI prompt to qualify a company against your ICP
Qualification fails when a model guesses. This prompt checks each criterion of your ICP separately, quotes evidence, and says “unknown” instead of rounding up.
When to use it
- You have a list of companies and a written ICP.
- You want to cut the list before spending credits on contacts.
- You need to explain to a colleague why a company was kept or dropped.
The prompt
Paste it into the model you use, then replace each bracketed input.
Judge whether [COMPANY] fits our ideal customer profile. Use only the pages below; never rely on memory and never invent evidence. Criteria: [ICP] Pages: [PAGES] For each criterion, return: met, not met, or unknown; a verbatim quote that supports your answer; and the page address. If there is no evidence either way, answer unknown, never met. Then give a verdict: fit (every criterion met), maybe (any unknown, none not met), or no fit (any not met), and one sentence on the decision. If a criterion cannot be checked from a public page, say so: not found.
| Input | What to put there |
|---|---|
[ICP] | Your criteria, one per line, each something a web page could show. |
[COMPANY] | The company name. |
[PAGES] | Text of its public pages with addresses. |
Why it works
- Separate criteria stop one strong signal from hiding a failed one.
- “Unknown” is a first-class answer, so gaps stay visible.
- The verdict rule is mechanical, so two runs give the same answer.
An example
Illustrative. The companies and pages below are invented.
Input
ICP: sells to restaurants; has at least three locations; runs online ordering COMPANY: Copperfield Kitchens (illustrative)
Output
Sells to restaurants: not met. Quote: "Copperfield Kitchens makes commercial ovens." (copperfieldkitchens.example/about) Three or more locations: unknown. not found. Online ordering: unknown. not found. Verdict: no fit. It is an equipment maker, not a restaurant group. (Illustrative output on an invented company.)
Variants
Tiered score
Using only the pages below and never inventing evidence, score [COMPANY] for each criterion: 2 met with a quote, 1 partly with a quote, 0 not met, unknown if no evidence. Return the table and the total. Criteria: [ICP] Pages: [PAGES]
Disqualifiers only
Check [COMPANY] only for disqualifiers: [DISQUALIFIERS]. Use only the pages below. For each, answer found with a verbatim quote and page address, or not found. Never infer. [PAGES]
